Another freezing cold day has discouraged me from cracking on with some painting. Instead I had a rummage around in my pile of shame for some bits to snip and clean up for assembly. I found an Eldar War Walker that will do just fine for keeping up the streak. It did not have a base with it, common for stuff I find on ebay, but I found a nice resin base of a suitable size that will do just as well.
I noticed that the war walker kit has a lot of weapon options but only one of each type. I checked the 7th edition Craftworld Codex and found that its rules allowed for taking all the weapons in matched pairs as well as in any combination of two. As it happens the weapons exactly match the ones which come with the Eldar Heavy Weapon sprue and as luck would have it I had one of them knocking around too. Given I do not intend to run any Guardians except Storm Guardians I do not really have any use in a heavy weapons platform so I am not losing anything using the weapons for the War Walker. This is a n00b question but do matched pairs count as twin-linked? Or only if explicitly stated to be so?
Whoever owned the Heavy Weapon Platform sprue (from the Guardians box?) before me was one of those weirdos who primes their bits before removing them from the sprue, as you can see in the picture. Do I really need to say why this a bad practice? Nevermind, I can work around it.
Naturally with all the vast array of weapon options and only one chassis on which to mount them means I will be magnetising them during assembly. I honestly hate the fiddle and faff with magnetising extra bits but in this case I guess it will be worth the trouble. I hardly want to have any more War Walkers for my Craftworld Altioc project so magnetising the many options is best way to have the possibility of alternative weapon loadouts for a list.
If it is cold tomorrow perhaps I will put off painting again by assembling the walker then.
