I decided to take a break from the lanky bois today. Instead I began putting down some colour for the first squad of Steel Legion for my Imperial Guard project. I have been buying up loads of stuff for it lately so I felt the need to start pushing on it.
They had been primed and zenithal highlighted previously in my streak as you can see in the above picture.
What I did today was to airbrush a few very thin coats of Army Painter Desert Yellow over everything just get some quick base colour down. It will be the base colour of their hefty overcoats in the end. Then I put down some Army Painter Fur Brown with a brush over their boots and gloves. Then over everything I used the airbrush again to get a thin layer of transparent dark umber ink as a sort of pre-wash.
Then I stippled a mix of white and desert yellow on the well lit areas of their overcoats. This is both a highlight and texturing in one step. After that I stippled the shaded parts of the overcoats with a mix of dark grey and desert yellow. Again this is an combo of shading and texturing. Then I stippled over the whited highlights with a mix of Desert Yellow and Daemonic Yellow to restore the colour saturation to the highlights whilst also getting some more texturing in.
For the full Army Painter range with persistent discounts Element Games is the place to go.
